Road Trip - The Salt River Canyon and White Mountains

In nothern Arizona at elevations above 5,000 feet is the White Mountains. Just south of the tall pine forests on US Route 90 is the Salt River Canyon. While deep canyons and rivers are not uncommon in Arizona the tall pines, mountain lakes and streams all seen very unlike Arizona.

The Salt River cuts through a deep canyon just south of the White Mountains on US route 90. Located on the San Carlos Apache Reservation the road drops through switchbacks to a bridge crossing the Salt River then up the other side.













During monsoon season storms can produce high wind, heavy rain and lightning.
